Painting Statement

When painting I transport to another place. This place is saturated in colour, texture and movement. My aim is to find flow, to get lost in the painting, and lose track of time and place. I hope the viewer can lose themselves when viewing my paintings.

The colours, mark making, shapes and values becomes a new language. Experiencing art can be like hearing a poem recited in a foreign language. I don’t know exactly what it means, but I can sense it’s beauty.

One of my projects this year is a painting called Dance. For a few years I have had the urge to paint a peacock, or so I thought. Once I completed the work I realized I wasn’t interested in the bird. What I really wanted was to put the peacock in a blender and see what came out. What interested me was the colours and movement.

My next project was “Peacock deconstructed”. I slapped on the paint, made marks, used my whole upper body in the movement. I painted without the brakes on, and without caution. I felt like I was flying. I want all my work to feel that way. I am constantly searching for the courage to paint without constraints.
